Amazing Adventure Awaits
The adventure begins before you arrive as we are located 76 km from Port Hardy via gravel road. Make sure your spare tire is in good working order, have a full tank of gas, and bring food and water. The first time we navigated the road as a family it was in a Toyota Sienna with four children under the age of six, and we went down the wrong road!

Take your time as the posted speed limit is 50 km/hr., and watch for directional signs as well as logging trucks. It usually takes 1.5-2 hours to drive this stretch of road.

Be sure to take in the sights and attractions along the way. At the 50 km mark you will pass through the small village of Holberg which hosts a small store, the Scarlet Ibis Pub, and a few kilometers out of town: Ronning's Garden.

Other landmarks you pass by include the Goodspeed Fossil Bed, Nahwitti Lake Recreation Site, a tree covered in shoes, and Bob's Crab Shack (don't get your hopes up as the crab shack is just a bit of backcountry humour).

If you are bringing up a boat, the best option is to launch in Coal Harbour (20 minutes drive from Port Hardy on pavement) and take the hour long boat ride to Winter Harbour. The launch fee is $10. Truck and trailer parking is available there. Please note: Our cabins are located a short walk from the docks in Winter Harbour.

A Unique Experience
As you drive into Winter Harbour, it will feel as if you've almost gone back in time. Cell coverage and pavement don't exist here. However, if you are looking to immerse yourself in nature, this is a wonderful place to be!

Use the village of Winter Harbour as a home base to explore the spectacular parks and beaches of the North Island. The well known San Josef Bay in Cape Scott Provincial Park and lesser know Raft Cove Provincial Park and Grant Bay are nearby.

In Winter Harbour you will find a kilometer long boardwalk that meanders along a scenic waterfront. Winter Harbour also hosts a post office, small museum, government dock, general store, fuel dock, and several campgrounds.
